Mrs. Lateresa Blackwell

Founder / Executive Director


Lateresa Blackwell, along with her husband, Michael Blackwell, own and operate the Café on the Corner.  Her passion is to empower others in their specific areas of interest with over 20 plus years in business, developing strategic leadership by analyzing the overall structure of the organization to assist with changing the culture, communication, and emotional intelligence amongst the organizations leadership which in turn will promote growth within the organization.  She is completely qualified to train, equip, and empower staff in Organizational development and change implementation.  She is currently an Assistant Director of Admissions. She is also the lead vocalist at New Hope Church. She holds a BSBA and MS in Organizational Leadership.  As executive director for The Kitchen of Grace she has raised over $60k in funds for the operations of the non-profit by establishing long lasting relationships with large corporations within the Pittsburgh Region.

Mr. Michael Blackwell

President / Program Director


Michael Blackwell, along with his wife, Lateresa Blackwell, own and operate the Café on the Corner. He has over 30 years of experience in the restaurant and catering industry. He got his start through the Allegheny Club at Three Rivers Stadium and there he grew in his skills through a chef apprenticeship program. Over the years, Michael has held positions in large and small organizations and restaurants as a head chef and catering manager. Michael has a heart for community and people. He brings a wealth of life experience and has a strong desire to invest in the future of the Marshall / Shadeland Community.

Dr. Christine Wankiiri-Hale



Christine Wankiiri-Hale serves as the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine. She has held several positions in academic leadership, including serving as vice-chair in the Department of Restorative Dentistry and Comprehensive Care at the University Of Pittsburgh School of Dental. Dr. Wankiiri-Hale is an alumna of several dental leadership institutes. She represents the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine as an officer and liaison to multiple external committees. In 2014 she was selected as one of Pittsburgh’s top 40 under 40 for her service in her community including being the first woman of color to serve in the role as Associate Dean at her dental school. Her current roles include mentoring past, current and future dental students in their education and careers. Her research interests include evidence-based practice in dental education, academic career paths in dental medicine and dental school admissions related research. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Dental Education Association, American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Western Pennsylvania Dental Society, National Dental Association, Gateway Medical Society and Omicron Kappa Upsilon National Dental Honor Society.

Mrs. Antoinette Payne



Antoinette Payne, CPA has over 16 years of experience in finance, tax matters, audit, and accounting.  She qualifies the full gambit of financial responsibility and maximization of financial resources, business relations, Federal and State compliance, Human Resources, benefits coordination administration and audit requirements compliance.  She has held executive positions as CFO of Face Advertisement, L.L.C.; Executive Assistant of Heritage Harley Davidson;  Senior Accountant for Schneider Downs & Co; and currently Co-Owner and Managing Accountant of M&A Tax, Accounting and Notary Services. Mrs. Payne is currently working on her EA certification with the IRS and expects to have obtained by the end of 2017. Mrs. Payne has a BSBA from Duquesne University.

Mr. Doug Phillips


Doug Philips is a member of the community and has been a supporter of Cafe on the Corner and Kitchen of Grace since the beginning. Doug's perspective is to grow communities from within, and he is a firm believer in the Kitchen's Mission of providing a place within the community for that growth to start.
